Gau Sha - Chinese: 刮痧 or VietNamese: Cạo Gió
Gua Sha is a traditional medical healing technique from China. Sometimes called scraping, coining, or spooning. Gau Sha is performed by using a tool repeatedly scrape an area with Chinese oil and medium pressure until the 'sha' apears on the skin. Gau is scraping using tool such as spoon, any coin, or water buffalo horn.
What is Sha? Now, this IS interesting! If the Sha is fresh and intense red, it means the condition is acute and has not yet penetrate deep into the body. If the Sha is black or purple, it indicates blood stagnation which means the condition has been long standing. If the Sha is dark, deep red, it indicates heat in the body. And finanly if the Sha is very light in colour, it indicated a deficiency of blood. If the Sha is pink, it means there is no fever, stagnation, or blood stasis. One last thing i need to mention is that after the Gau Sha treament, some patients might have a fever, for the treatment is helping the client to release toxic, winds, moisture or any unwanted blood stagnation in the body.
Gua Sha has the ability to break up stagnation and to promote the smooth flow of blood in the area, thereby relieving pain; acute and chronic. Gau Sha also helps relief high fever, respiration, tension in muscles.
After Gau Sha treament, the patient usually feels lighter, a shift, or release especially pain areas.
After you had a Gau Sha session with me, I will smooth out, or massage the areas where I had scraped on, for it hurt due to all those Sha came out from your back. Shower should be avoided at lease four hours after the session, for the pores in the skins are still open (on their way closing). We do not want any water go into the pores as this might cause back pain or arthritic later on.
